Some quotes I collected from articles about the Cannes Film Festival and when Pen?? ??lope, Rebecca Hall and Woody Allen promoted Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Penelope Cruz was happy to be back in Cannes where she has come many times with Pedro Almodovar films. She was taken aback by all the sudden praise and Oscar talk for her hilarious comic performance as the Spanish spitfire ex of Bardem and said Allen encouraged them to ditch the script and make up all their many Spanish language lines since Woody doesn??? ?? ?t exactly write in that language..

??? ?? We improvised so much. I thought he??? ?? ?s gonna get so mad at me for saying so many bad words!??? ???

Cruz says she was shocked at how “peculiar” it was to meet Allen for casting. “I went in there for two minutes and he was very, very sweet. After I came out, in three minutes, I called my agents and they said: ‘Oh my God, you were there for such a long time!’

“And they were not joking. When I did my investigations with other actors, it is true, the meetings are very short. He just wants to see. He says he needs 10 seconds. He had already seen Volver and he knew what he was looking for. He just wants to see … I don’t know … an energy thing.”

Penelope told me that although she occasionally loses her temper she’s nothing like Marie Elena, the woman she plays in Woody’s movie.

‘I’ve had some fights at work and rows with producers, but not often. And when I do lose my temper I’d rather do it in my language, but it’s whatever comes out of my mouth first.

‘I don’t get very far because then the people I’m angry with start laughing and I get angrier, and then I start laughing as well,’ Penelope explained.

Quotes found here, here and here.

There has been many rumours about why Scarlett Johansson didn’t attend to Cannes and we can’t know what is true. But her publiscist said she was busy with other things – but as we all know that is what most publiscist says when they don’t want to say the truth

Here is what OsoBlog says and NYDailyNews.

Well, the long answer is that Scarlett Johansson didn’t join her co-stars Penelope Cruz (in Marquesa) and Rebecca Hall (in Alberta Ferretti) for the premiere of the new Woody Allen movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona at the Cannes Film Festival because of her list of “bloated demands”, as the Daily Mail calls them.

According to the Mail, the film company was laying on flights, a hotel, a limousine, a choice of designer gowns and hair and make-up people for Scarlett, Penelope and Rebecca. But Scarlett would only fly out to Cannes to promote the movie if she was able to bring “her own exclusive make-up consultant at a cost of 5,000 Euros a day” and was able to stay at a different hotel from the rest of the cast and crew, “some 25 to 30 miles away”

an interesting article about Pedro and his thoughts about his previous work and how he has portrayed men before.

He is a renowned ladies’ man. Most of the leading characters in Pedro Almod?? ??var’s films have been women. Men, in contrast, have tended to be villains or bit-part players.

But with his next film, Broken Embraces, the double Oscar-winning Spanish director is to change tack, giving his male characters stronger roles.

“They always talk about ‘my women’, but I have worked with major [male] actors like Antonio Banderas,” he said. “They don’t say much about my male characters except they are symbol of a patriarchal [society].”
