Penélope Cruz: Feeling good is important

Posted by Claudia on May 13th, 2012 under Articles & Interviews

Penélope Cruz insists beauty “does have a meaning”.

The stunning star’s mother owned a hair salon, and she spent much time there growing up.

Penélope knows the importance of feeling good about yourself.

“I saw that transformation in women. Not about how they look, but about how beauty makes them feel. Sometimes, women would come in and they were sad, ill, unhappy or worried, and my mother would say, ‘Okay, let’s cut your hair’, and that little thing would improve their mood for the rest of the week,” she said in an interview with Red magazine.

“Beauty doesn’t mean more, or less, than what it is – but it does have a meaning.”

Penélope works with a trusted beauty team. The 38-year-old Spanish actress has picked up many tricks of the trade by watching her esteemed make-up artists.

“I’ve worked with Pablo Iglesias from Spain for 20 years. I always try to work with the same team, so I have a few people around the world who I work with a lot, depending on where I am,” she said.

“You watch them work in the mirror and learn little tricks. But I grew up around beauty because my mother owned a hair salon, so I was always watching her working and asking her to let me do somebody’s hair.”

Penelope gave an amazing Q&A interview to Ms. Hay of The Examiner (Based in Baltimore) and we’d like you to take the time and read the article here. It’s worth it trust me. She touches on a lot of topics with Ms. Hay from Madrid (Spain) to Vicky Cristina Barcelona and her newest film The Nine (not yet released).

Also I have a mass update on Friday with the most recent event Penelope attended, The Orange British Academy Film Awards 2009, now this event should total more than 100.

Pe on ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’

Posted by admin on May 22nd, 2008 under Articles & Interviews, Vicky Cristina Barcelona

Some quotes I collected from articles about the Cannes Film Festival and when Pen?? ??lope, Rebecca Hall and Woody Allen promoted Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Penelope Cruz was happy to be back in Cannes where she has come many times with Pedro Almodovar films. She was taken aback by all the sudden praise and Oscar talk for her hilarious comic performance as the Spanish spitfire ex of Bardem and said Allen encouraged them to ditch the script and make up all their many Spanish language lines since Woody doesn??? ?? ?t exactly write in that language..

??? ?? We improvised so much. I thought he??? ?? ?s gonna get so mad at me for saying so many bad words!??? ???

Cruz says she was shocked at how “peculiar” it was to meet Allen for casting. “I went in there for two minutes and he was very, very sweet. After I came out, in three minutes, I called my agents and they said: ‘Oh my God, you were there for such a long time!’

“And they were not joking. When I did my investigations with other actors, it is true, the meetings are very short. He just wants to see. He says he needs 10 seconds. He had already seen Volver and he knew what he was looking for. He just wants to see … I don’t know … an energy thing.”

Penelope told me that although she occasionally loses her temper she’s nothing like Marie Elena, the woman she plays in Woody’s movie.

‘I’ve had some fights at work and rows with producers, but not often. And when I do lose my temper I’d rather do it in my language, but it’s whatever comes out of my mouth first.

‘I don’t get very far because then the people I’m angry with start laughing and I get angrier, and then I start laughing as well,’ Penelope explained.

Quotes found here, here and here.
